IFLA Australian Caucus Terms of Reference

The role of the IFLA Australian caucus is to provide:

  • networking opportunities for Australian participants at WLIC
  • information on Australian participants’ roles in IFLA
  • an opportunity to meet the IFLA President / President elect
  • formal opportunity to hear about IFLA strategic issues from GB members, Division Chairs, Section Chairs
  • encouragement for people to stand for committees.

The Australian caucus sets out to achieve a greater awareness of IFLA in Australia and the work that IFLA does as the global voice of libraries. 
This document establishes the role and purpose, membership, responsibilities and meetings for the IFLA Australian caucus.

2019 Information Awareness Month: Many voices, one message

On 1 May 2019, 60 people joined professional associations and industry leaders at the University of Canberra for discussions on contemporary information and data management trends and challenges. The event also launched Information Awareness Month for 2019 with the theme ‘Innovation with Information’.
The document summarises discussions and key themes presented by Records and Information Management Professionals Australasia, Australian Library and Information Association, Australian Society of Archivists and Data Management Association Australia.

ALIA Student Award

The Association provides an award to recognise the highest achieving graduating student in every ALIA Accredited librarianship and library technician course, as a means of rewarding excellence.
Educators should complete the application form four weeks before a graduation ceremony or conferring in absentia and email it to education@alia.org.au.

Creative industry letter to the Prime Minister, ministers and lord mayors on COVID-19 action

Open letter published on Thursday 26 March 2020 petitions Prime Minister, The Hon Scott Morrison MP, and Deputy Prime Minister, The Hon Michael McCormack MP to provide additional support to creative industries in Australia in response to impacts of COVID-19.

Policies and Procedures in Australian School Library Resource Centres: Template

A template document for the Manual for developing policies and procedures for Australian school library resource centres that can be used to update or prepare your own school library copy. Its aim is to develop the policies and document the procedures that are essential for exemplary management practices. The implementation of these policies and procedures will ensure that there is equitable access to resources for all users. A school library resource centre that is well managed is in the best possible position to offer the range of library programmes and services that are essential to the endeavours of the school community.
The Manual contains nine sections, a glossary, references and appendices. Each section comprises two parts, that for the policy and the second for its procedures. There are two versions of the Manual, one that includes images and one that is text only. 

Mapping of TAFE Libraries: Updated 2021

The VET Libraries Advisory Committee advises the ALIA Board of Directors on the development of a strategic program for members working in vocational libraries or with interests in vocational librarianship. 
 
The document records institutions, contacts and participation in the National Reciprocal Borrowing Scheme among vocational libraries.

Share Your Stories With the World: Victorian public libraries and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals

Public libraries are highly regarded institutions and leaders in the community, with significant influence on local government. The purpose of this report is to support leaders in the Victorian library sector to leverage their relationship with local government and policy makers; and to share their stories and contribute to federal reporting on the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

National Early Language and Literacy Strategy: Discussion paper

This discussion paper outlines the objectives and priorities of a National Early Language and Literacy Strategy based on the evidence review undertaken between March 2019 and June 2020. The review included peerreviewed literature, existing national and international strategies, policies and programs, in addition to previous work undertaken by the National Early Language and Literacy Coalition. Its content will frame the co-design by the Working Group of a draft National Strategy. Considerations and questions are highlighted throughout to structure input and discussion on:
Priorities: key focus areas
Targets: key outcomes to be achieved or aimed for in each focus area
Responses: mechanisms to be leveraged (e.g. services, policies, engagement strategies) to achieve targets.

ALIA national library and information technicians' symposium 2017: bridge to knowledge

ALIA National Library and Information Technicians' Symposium, held 27-29 September 2017, provided an opportunity for library technicians from around Australia to meet together in the formal setting of a structured program, to hear prominent members of the profession, as well as their peers, speak and debate contemporary issues relating to the profession, professionalism and library work in general. In addition, there will be many opportunities for networking including the symposium dinner, opening and closing events and daily breaks as well as the opportunity for networking at the ad hoc gatherings that this event supports and encourages.

ALIA National Library and Information Technicians' Symposium was held 27-29 September 2017 at the Australian Catholic University, North Sydney. This symposium provided an opportunity for library technicians from around Australia to meet together in the formal setting of a structured program, to hear prominent members of the profession, as well as their peers, speak and debate contemporary issues relating to the profession, professionalism and library work in general. In addition, there will be many opportunities for networking including the symposium dinner, opening and closing events and daily breaks as well as the opportunity for networking at the ad hoc gatherings that this event supports and encourages.
