Online Storytime: Report for January-March 2021

In 2021 the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) is piloting a scheme where publishers can permit the use of their Australian picture book titles in 'Online Storytime 2021' in return for a small annual payment from public library branches.

The pilot follows the popularity of Online Storytime in Australian public libraries during the COVID-19 pandemic, where Australian children and caregivers embraced the online reading of picture books by their local librarians with many hundreds uploaded since April 2020.

This report provides an overview of the program for the first quarter of 2021.

Professional Pathways: consultation report

As the professional body for the library and information services (LIS) sector, the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) exists to support the LIS profession. This is why we are excited to launch the Professional Pathways initiative, to ensure we have a diverse, skilled, valued and supported LIS workforce delivering quality library and information services that anticipate and meet the needs of the population.

In November 2020, ALIA released the consultation draft of the Professional Pathways initiative. The release started an intense period of consultation, during which time hundreds of people across the library and information sector engaged in the process, providing important feedback and addressing emerging issues. The consultation period culminated in the Professional Pathways Summit in February 2021.

This report provides a summary of the key themes that emerged during the three-month consultative process. This process has enabled ALIA to understand more deeply the needs and concerns of the sector we serve, and the challenges we may face. This document stands as a record of both the time, effort and thought that the sector contributed to the consultation, and of the themes that emerged, which will strengthen the project moving forward.

ALIA Board of Directors: Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct has been drawn up with regard to the responsibility entrusted to the elected members of the Australian Library and Information Association's (ALIA’s) Board of Directors. It outlines fundamental principles to guide the Board to act in a way that is fair, ethical and beneficial for ALIA and its members. Every member of the Board of Directors is expected to comply with the spirit and letter of this code.

The Code of Conduct was endorsed at ALIA Board meeting on 3 July 2017 and will be reviewed every four years.

ALIA Strategic Plan 2019-2023

The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) will achieve its vision, provide leadership, and influence the successful evolution of the library and information (LIS) sector in Australia through the four strategic priorities: leadership and advocacy; members and membership; education and professional development; future-proofing ALIA.

ALIA will actively seek out partnerships and opportunities for collaboration which will complement our strategic priorities and provide us with further opportunities to expand our capacity, reach and profile.
