ALIA submission to the public consultation on a new National Cultural Policy

In this submission to the National Cultural Policy consultation, ALIA supports the retention of the five pillars as the foundation for the renewed National Cultural Policy: First Nations First; A Place for Every Story; Centrality of the Artist; Strong Cultural Infrastructure; and Engaging the Audience.

ALIA joins BooksCreate and Australia Reads in calling on the government to build on the success of Writing Australia by including a national plan for books and reading in the 2026 National Cultural Policy. As a central part of this ALIA urges the government to increase its recognition of and support for Australia’s libraries as a keystone of our nation’s cultural and democratic health.
