The Nancy Booker Honour Lecture was instituted by the NSW Group of the Children's and Youth Services as a forum for children's and youth librarians and others concerned with the promotion of high quality children's literature and professional development in the field of children's and youth librarianship.
The 1998 Nancy Booker Honour Lecture was presented by children's librarian Heather Fisher. She was also the recipient of the Marjorie Cotton Award and the ALIA study grant.

On behalf of a consortium of state and territory libraries, the Australia Library and Information Association (ALIA) commissioned SGS Economics and Planning Pty Ltd (SGS) to generate estimates of the contributions that public libraries make to Australian community welfare and Australian economic activity.
National Library and Information Technicians Symposium, 27-29 September 2017 North Sydney: bridge to knowledge
The symposium will provide an opportunity for library technicians from around Australia to meet together in the formal setting of a structured program, to hear prominent members of the profession, as well as their peers, speak and debate contemporary issues relating to the profession, professionalism and library work in general. In addition, there will be many opportunities for networking including the symposium dinner, opening and closing events and daily breaks as well as the opportunity for networking at the ad hoc gatherings that this event supports and encourages.
This document has been prepared by a National RFID Data Profile (NRDP) working group established under the auspices of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). The working group was established to consider issues relating to information elements that might be placed on RFID tags by Australian libraries and the extent to which such information might have an impact on future interoperability and the leverage to be gained through RFID technology. More broadly, the working group also looked at a number of other related issues that could potentially limit interoperability as RFID systems are progressively rolled out across the country.

This discussion paper outlines the objectives and priorities of a National Early Language and Literacy Strategy based on the evidence review undertaken between March 2019 and June 2020. The review included peerreviewed literature, existing national and international strategies, policies and programs, in addition to previous work undertaken by the National Early Language and Literacy Coalition. Its content will frame the co-design by the Working Group of a draft National Strategy. Considerations and questions are highlighted throughout to structure input and discussion on:

ALIA, along with the Australian Space Agency and The Office of the Chief Scientist, and with help from Science Time From Space, is very excited to be able to bring an additional science and educational component to National Simultaneous Storytime 2021 - a science demonstration conducted by astronauts on the International Space Station emulating the heat balances between the sun/Earth/space.
Student questions about temperatures in outer space were answered by Bjarni Tryggvason, Former Astronaut, Research Engineer and Test Pilot.

This conference paper discusses how ibrarians have always played a crucial role in cultivating world class research. Yet, increasingly, all modern research involves some form of computation. If skills such as programming and data analysis are not routinely taught as part of a library science curriculum, what pathways exist for librarians to acquire these skills so they can go on to play a greater role in supporting researchers and in making greater use of the data generated within their own institutions? Library Carpentry is one model for skills acquisition. How could it be put to use in rebooting librarianship for the 21st century – which is already tipped to be the century of big data?
