This guideline is intended to provide library and information professionals with guidance on negotiating third party digital licensing or agreements and the appropriate management and security practices in respect to library customers’ personal information.
We welcome this opportunity to respond to the Productivity Commission Data Availability and Use Issues Paper. Library and information professionals work with data every day: we capture data; we help store data and make it accessible; we help make data discoverable; we help others find the data they need; we contribute to data policy discussions.
These guidelines are intended to assist libraries to develop policies and practices which will enable them to comply with privacy codes, principles and related legislation. It is not intended that they should replace the obtaining of formal legal advice. Libraries may therefore also wish to seek advice from their organisation's legal advisers and lawyers, depending upon their circumstances.
